Belmont Garden Club Mission
According to the By-Laws of the Belmont Garden the "object of this club shall be to advance the art of gardening, the science of horticulture, the artistic use of plant material in both flower and garden design, the conservation of our natural resources, and the development of civic beauty."

Club members meet monthly to socialize and to hear from experts on horticulture and flower design. They attend workshops to learn and practice new floral arranging and horticulture skills. The Club also offers trips for members to museums, gardens, and other places of interest.

Our fund raising activities include Greens Sales, Perennial Sales, House Tours and Garden Tours. The profits from these fund raisers are used to further our community outreach programs. All of these programs directly benefit the residents of Belmont. Some of the most noteworthy include:

Community Planting: Working with Belmont's DPW, this program provides funding support, plant material, design work, and labor for many Town properties including traffic deltas, memorial spaces, cemetery grounds, and the seasonal displays in the historic horse trough in Belmont Center. For more information, email communityplanting@belmontgardenclub.info

Hospital & Garden Therapy: Hands-on workshops using natural materials are provided for the residents of Belmont Manor.

Marion Wilkens/Marie Gray Scholarship Award Fund: High school students who are residents of Belmont and plan to pursue a 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning in the area of Horticulture, Biology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Landscape Design or other closely related field are eligible. For more information, email scholarships@belmontgardenclub.info

Greenhouse Group: This group cultivates a vegetable garden to provide fresh produce to local food pantries.

Senior Center: Periodically throughout the year, members provide floral arrangements and flower design workshops for the Senior Center.

Floral Design for Public Spaces: Periodically throughout the year, members provide floral arrangements for the enjoyment of Belmont residents at the Town Hall, Homer Building, and Belmont Memorial Library.

Flower Shows: The Club provides flower shows for our own education and for the enjoyment of the public. In 2009 the Club, in conjunction with the Belmont 150 Committee and Belmont Historical Society, staged "Belmont in Bloom" to celebrate Belmont's Sesquicentennial. On June 1-2, 2012 we will be staging a flower show, "Signs of Spring" at the Belmont Library Assembly Room.

Membership: To become a member one must submit an application and two letters of recommendation from current members. The Executive Board takes a formal vote to ratify acceptance as a Provisional Member. We are a working club, so we ask new provisionals to demonstrate a willingness to participate before they are voted to full membership. If one does not know any members of the Club, the Membership Chair will help to find sponsors. For more information, email membership@belmontgardenclub.info
